eclampsia

Definition: Eklampsie = Präeklampsie + Krampfanfall (1).
Prevalence: in 30-40% postpartal auftretend (1).
Treatment: magnesium sulphate is the first-line drug treatment for seizures and for recurrent seizures. Both intravenous and intramuscular routes of administration have been used effectively. The regimen recommended by the Collaborative Eclampsia Trial is 4-5 g MgSO4 intravenously over 5 min., followed by an infusion of 1 g/h for 24h. If recurrent seizures occur, an additional 2 g intravenous MgSO4 should be administered (2).
